Dan or Justy

We spent several days with Rhys and Margaret Richards. Rhys is Gareth's cousin. Rhys is a retired diplomat and Margaret has represented New Zealand to the UN for Labor issues. More welcoming hosts we cannot imagine. They live in a grown-up-over-time beach bach (Kiwi slang for bachelor house, or what we often call a "camp"). The house is a perfect reflection of them: comfortable with an earthy sensibility. Rhys is a researcher/collector of Solomon Islands native art (he likes other islands too, but concentrates on the Solomons). Their home is practically a museum of amazing pieces displayed in an understated, but very effective manner.

Onwards prancer, dasher and smasher...we ride our sleigh south to the capital of NZ. There are reports of a five day fog settled over the airport in Wellington, planes have been diverted and delayed for a week now. Talk of moving the airport is heating up, with obvious delays in action. The fog will eventually lift!
