Today we drove about without a plan. We followed a sign for Emu Park and found not a wildlife park, but a small town on the coast.
Captain Cook sighted Keppel Bay and Emu Point in 1770 (a busy year for him up and down the coast). There is a wonderful monument to him situated on a hill overlooking the ocean: a Singing Ship. A concrete structure with heavy gauge wires under tension, a steam whistle-like mast collaborate to make an eerie sound. It carries quite a distance.
I made a big mistake today. I tried to fix Justine's sunglasses. She warned me not to, but I thought "it's only a little screw and I've fixed worse..." I got screwed of course when the attachment to the frame snapped off. No chance of repair or jury-rigging. Just screwed. I spent the better part of the afternoon seeking some kind of minor-replacement. I succeeded, but will be in the doghouse for weeks to come.
HOW DAN GOT THE ASS AWARD

A short drive to the coast took us to Emu Park, the city. It's not a park at all! There we came upon the singing boat, or large harp-shaped wind catcher that plays with the wind. Enchanting!
As a Valentines Day treat, Dan has surprised me with a 4 day sail aboard the tallship Solway Lass around the Whitsunday Islands. It's supposed to be absolutely grand! That's the sweet side of the man, but...
...he's also got a darker side! Daniel has earned an TOTAL ASS award. After being told NOT to mess with my prescription sunglasses, the man thinking that he can fix a small screw, no problem! Its just a small screw!
The glasses were going to break eventually anyway. He did not cause the destruction, but he was a catalyst for the chain reaction. So, for refusing to take NO for an answer, and not following directions. Pushing through an obvious DO NOT PROCEED, the ASS has been awarded to Daniel Stocker.
